Look out kid ...9:18 am
The New York Times raises the profile of “Iran’s Dylan,” a lute player and singer who apparently combines old forms and new, along with touches of satire, in songs that are illegal to sell in Iran, but which have acquired a large following all the same. Along with the risk he takes of receiving punishment from the political regime in Iran, he has also drawn the ire of the Persian classical music purists. I’m in no way qualified to make aesthetic judgments on his work, but the position in which he has put himself certainly marks him as a courageous soul. That tune does strike me as something of a cross between It’s Alright Ma and Honey Just Allow Me One More Chance.
