Another side of Bob and more!

More frailer than the flowers, these precious hours
That keep us so tightly bound
You come to my eyes like a vision from the skies
And I'll be with you when the deal goes down

Osama jumps the shark ...2:24 pm

Hot Air now has the video, if there is anyone really interested in sitting through it. The transcript is well worth browsing, though, if only for the yuks and head-shaking it has to inspire.

The question is this: We know how his absurd ramblings sound to us, but how do they sound to the average jihadi in the field? How dispiriting must it be — surely — to hear the great spiritual leader of the fight against the infidel yammering on about Noam Chomsky, Michael Scheuer, and the burden on Americans of “insane taxes” and problematic mortgages? I mean, is this what they’re fighting for? And is Bin Laden’s feeble attempt at one point to paint a picture of American troops crying and committing suicide in Iraq really going resonate very strongly with al-Qaeda types running from hole to hole with the U.S. Marines on their back? Their Sunni brothers have deserted them, the Americans keep chasing and killing them, and now the great hero Osama is ranting about global warming. It hardly seems to represent the kind of morale-booster they would need at this point.

What a pity!

Addendum: Jihad Watch has more on the serious things going on in Bin Laden’s address, including the jihady justification for the dye job. I don’t doubt for a second that Bin Laden has serious intent behind what he’s doing, but I do question whether the video is very much succeeding with it or whether instead the absurd aspects outweigh the dastardly scheming. Bottom line, where he would like to appear strong, I think that he appears weak. He no doubt would have liked some jihadist plots in the West (whether by al-Qaeda or free agents) to have succeeded recently in order to give resonance to his words, but none have, though many have been disrupted. Absent something to back up his portentous-message act, it starts to appear desperate and ridiculous. (And here’s to things continuing in that vein.)
