On The Twelfth Night ...2:28 pm
Courtesy of the BBC, here are some numbers representing the mayhem so far in France:
One man killed
4,700 cars torched
1,200 people arrested
108 police and firefighters injured
(As of November 7th)
Of-course that does not include how many buildings have been burned, which in my memory include a gymnasium, a nursery school, as well as warehouses and car dealerships.
Meanwhile, there’s a new problem today:
The head of the union of French magistrates, Dominique Barella, told Agence France-Presse that courts were becoming overwhelmed by the number of defendants sent before them because of the violence.
‘It’s impossible! We don’t have the means in the prosecution offices to operate like emergency services,’ he said.
That’s a “can-do” attitude if ever I heard one. “Stop arresting people! We’re too busy!”
Sounds to me like a good time for a prosecutors’ strike. After all, when will they ever have so much leverage again?
