Another side of Bob and more!

More frailer than the flowers, these precious hours
That keep us so tightly bound
You come to my eyes like a vision from the skies
And I'll be with you when the deal goes down

DAYS OF THE WEEK ...5:06 pm

Theme Time

Last week’s edition of Theme Time Radio Hour with your host Bob Dylan was a seven day affair.

A thumbnail:

Sterling Harrison ( “Here’s a great guy you never heard of …” ) — Seven Days
U2 — Sunday Bloody Sunday
(Bob then reads the names of the 13 who were killed on the day memorialized by the preceding U2 song, with a solemn drum roll in the background. )
(Jack White talks about knowing when it’s Sunday.)
Frankie Lee Sims — Lucy Mae Blues
Smiley Lewis — Blue Monday
( “That was Smiley Lewis, who’s edging out George Jones as the most played artist on Theme Time Radio Hour.” )
The Rolling Stones — Ruby Tuesday
( “What I like about that record is Brian Jones playing the recorder” )
( Bob then takes out a recorder, or so he says, and plays a snatch of the melody of Blowin’ In The Wind )
Lonnie Johnson ( “truly one of the greats” ) — Tomorrow Night
The Undertones — Wednesday Week
Morphine — Thursday
( Bob tells of Mark Sandman’s death of a heart attack on stage in 1999 )
The Easybeats — Friday On My Mind
( Email from “Jackie Van from Manhattan” asking what Bob thinks of Sheryl Crow singing Not Fade Away for a TV commercial. Bob thinks it’s fine: “if it makes one person curious, about either Buddy or Sheryl, I’m all for it.” Talks about how Sonny Boy Williamson sold flour, and Jimmie Rodgers sold biscuits. “And Jackie, have you ever seen a Victoria Secrets [sic] ad?” )
Charlie Rich — Lonely Weekends
( Bob talks about the film “Lost Weekend” and plays a clip. )
Tom Waits — The Heart of Saturday Night
Doug Sahm — Wasted Days
( Bob talks about the writer of the preceding song, Freddy Fender. )
Kris Kristofferson — Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down

( Dylan quotes the poet Shelley to end the show, reading his poem, “Good-Night.” )

Good-night? ah! no; the hour is ill
Which severs those it should unite;
Let us remain together still,
Then it will be good night.

How can I call the lone night good,
Though thy sweet wishes wing its flight?
Be it not said, thought, understood –
Then it will be — good night.

To hearts which near each other move
From evening close to morning light,
The night is good; because, my love,
They never say good-night.

Next week’s theme: CALIFORNIA
