Back about 19 days ago, it was predicted here that radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh would wipe the floor with Senator Harry Reid et al over the controversy which they falsely concocted from two words he spoke during a phone call on his show. It is now done (covered at Hot Air ). Rush used a letter of condemnation signed by Reid and 41 other Democratic senators (intended to browbeat his employer into browbeating him) to raise money on eBay for The Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, which primarily helps the children of Marines or Federal Law Enforcement officers killed on duty. The letter and the Halliburton carrying case in which it resides has fetched $2,100,100 for that charity, a figure which Limbaugh will himself match. Reid was lame enough to go to the floor of the U.S. Senate today and talk about what a great thing this was, and to seek to take some credit for the money raised from what was described in the eBay auction as the “original and infamous ‘Harry Reid Smear’ letter.” Lacking shame can be advantageous to many politicians’ careers, but I somehow doubt that Reid has done himself any favors with this extended pantomime.
