Another side of Bob and more!

The cry of the peacock, flies buzzin' my head
Ceiling fan broken, there's a heat in my bed
Street band playing "Nearer My God To Thee"
We met at the station, where the mission bells ring
She said "I know what you're thinking but there ain't a thing
You can do about it, so let us just agree to agree."

CADILLAC ...6:25 pm

Theme Time Radio Hour

This week’s show was so much fun, it must have burned a gallon of gas about every thirty seconds.

While I doubt that Bob saw any need to defend himself from the critics of his Cadillac commercials during this show, or would care to waste his time doing such, I do think that a listen to it offers the best defense of all, which is: lighten up, folks. You could also say that this is an ongoing and underlying theme of “Theme Time Radio Hour” in general.

Playlist and personal thumbnail of the show:

( “According to Webster, [a Cadillac] is something that is the most luxurious or highest quality of its kind. Here at ‘Theme Time Radio Hour,’ we’ve always aspired to be the Cadillac of radio shows … .” )
Buddy Johnson and His Orchestra — A Pretty Girl, A Cadillic and Some Money
Vince Taylor and His Playboys — Brand New Cadillac
( Bob tells Vince Taylor’s life story. )
Paul Bascomb — Pink Cadillac
Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys — Cadillac in Model A ( “I like this song because it uses Cadillac as a verb.” )
( Bob takes a phone call from “Lonesome Louey in Nashville,” who is trying to write a song about Cadillacs, but doesn’t know how to spell it. “I got a guy here who can help you,” Bob sez, before playing the next record. )
Bo Diddley — Cadillac
Howie Strange — Real Gone Daddy
( Bob talks about games of chicken, racing, and James Dean. )
( “No matter how long those Cadillacs are, I have a feeling it’s not what Mildred Jones is talkin’ about.” )
Mildred Jones — Mr. Thrill ( “A song that’s kind of like a single entendre.” )
Andre Williams — Cadillac Jack ( “We got a lot of letters about his song ‘Jailbait’” )
Red Simpson — Jeannie with the Light Brown Cadillac
( “We’ve told you a little about Stephen Foster, and we wouldn’t even be doing a radio show if it wasn’t for him. He was one of the greatest writers of all time.” Describes how he died at the age of 39 with 38 cents in his pocket, and recites some of the words of his song, “I Dream of Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair.” )
Jerry McCain — Courtin’ in a Cadillac
The Blasters — Long White Cadillac
The Cadillacs — Speedo
( Bob talks at length about the life of the American Indian leader Geronimo, ending with this intro to the next song, “Unfortunately Michael wasn’t there, so the veracity of this song is not total. However, it is quite catchy.” )
Michael Martin Murphy — Geronimo’s Cadillac
( “We complain about paparazzi today, but the truth is, photographers from newspapers have always tried to steal people’s dignity. There’s a line that’s blurred between reporting the news and staging events.” )
Dizzy Gillespie — Swing Low, Sweet Cadillac
William DeVaughn — Be Thankful For What You Got
( “I hope you’re all thankful for what you have, but if you’re not, here’s some luxury features currently available in the new Cadillac:
They have a five language information display, Zingano
[sp?] wood accents, rear view camera, power-tilt sliding-sunroof, with express opening and close, and of-course three months trial subscription to XM Satellite Radio, so you can keep listening to ‘Theme Time Radio Hour.’” )
( “We’re gonna head on down the road now, and if you’re not driving a Caddy, all you’re gonna see are my brake-lights, ’cos it’s like they say, ‘If clothes make the man, a Cadillac makes him stand taller in ’em.’ See ya next week.” )

Next week’s theme: An encore presentation of HALLOWE’EN

The following week’s new show: HEAD TO TOE
