Another side of Bob and more!

The tempest may howl and the loud thunder roar
And gathering storms may arise
But calm is my feeling, at rest is my soul
The tears are all wiped from my eyes

When the night ...2:39 pm

Anyone who attended a church this morning which follows the most commonly used lectionary would I think have heard this from Paul’s letter to the Romans:

And this, knowing the season, that already it is time for you to awake out of sleep: for now is salvation nearer to us than when we first believed.

The night is far spent, and the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

And the Gospel reading would have been from the twenty-fourth chapter of Matthew, and included:

But of that day and hour knoweth no one, not even the angels of heaven, neither the Son, but the Father only.

And as were the days of Noah, so shall be the coming of the Son of man.

For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and they knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall be the coming of the Son of man.

So, it seems like that would all make it a good day to listen to When The Night Comes Falling From The Sky, huh? It’s not a song that has commonly appeared in Bob Dylan’s set lists, but he did it during his tours with Tom Petty and Heartbreakers in the 80s, including this spirited version at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California on August 5th, 1986.

Well, I’ve walked two hundred miles, now look me over,
It’s the end of the chase and the moon is high.
It won’t matter who loves who,
You’ll love me or I’ll love you
When the night comes falling from the sky.
