I’ll drink to that ...9:20 pm
As has been widely reported, Bob Dylan and his touring band recorded a new version of A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall, specially for a forthcoming event in Spain called the Expo Zaragoza 2008, which is highlighting the problems many people in the world have obtaining access to clean water.
An mp3 file of the tune can be found on a website associated with the Expo at this link (click on “Descargar mp3″.) It’s a very slinky version of the tune indeed, and I like it quite a lot.
Go to this link if you want to watch various promotional videos for the Expo which incorporate the new recording. There are some annoying qualities to the video clips, if you ask me, but there is some footage included of Bob and his band in the studio recording the song. Dylan has contributed a voice-over as well, saying simply, “This is Bob Dylan and I’m proud to be part of the mission to make water safe and clean for every human being in this world.”
Doing penance for his Cadillac commercials? Well, I don’t know. One thing’s for sure: you need water to make Cadillacs. Those GM workers get mighty thirsty.
Water’s a big issue in many places, no question about it. And not least in the Middle East.
