Another side of Bob and more!

The cry of the peacock, flies buzzin' my head
Ceiling fan broken, there's a heat in my bed
Street band playing "Nearer My God To Thee"
We met at the station, where the mission bells ring
She said "I know what you're thinking but there ain't a thing
You can do about it, so let us just agree to agree."

PARTY ...12:07 pm

Theme Time Radio Hour with your host Bob Dylan

In 1997, Dylan sang that “the party’s over, and there’s less and less to say,” but he managed to scrounge up a few more words and a pile of great records for this past week’s edition of “Theme Time Radio Hour” on XM Satellite Radio.

Playlist and selected quotes below:

Showstoppers — Ain’t Nothing But A House Party
( “I love records like that, where they use the baritone sax to drive the bass along.” )
Wanda Jackson — Let’s Have A Party
( “Y’know it’s almost criminal that Wanda’s not in the rock & roll Hall of Fame. I mean, you just heard that record — tell me that shouldn’t be in the rock & roll Hall of Fame! Y’know what I think I’m going to do? I think I’m going to petition to start a ‘Theme Time Radio Hour’ wing. We’ll put people in it like Link Wray, Richard Berry, and our next artist: Jesse Allen.” )
Jesse Allen — Let’s Party
( Bob talks about risqué “party records,” once sold under the counter, and plays a clip of Redd Foxx. )
Don and Dewey — Baby Gotta Party
( Bob reads a little bit of James Moncure March’s poem, “The Wild Party.” )
Leslie Gore — It’s My Party
( Bob talks about the producer of the preceding record, Quincy Jones. )
( Amy Sedaris talks party tips. )
Wayne “Buddy” Knox — Party Doll
( Phone call from “Melissa,” saying that the spark has gone out of her sex life with her husband, and asking Bob for advice. Bob delivers, of-course. )
Smiley Lewis — Caldonia’s Party
The Enchanters — I Paid For The Party
Claudine Clark — Party Lights
Al Johnson — Carnival Time
Louis Jordan — House Party
Dolly Parton and Porter Waggoner — The Party
( Richard Lewis explains why he dislikes parties. )
Lord Beginner — After The Bacchanal
Elvis Costello — Party Girl
Blossom Dearie — The Party’s Over

Next week’s theme: SECOND ANNUAL COUNTDOWN SHOW
