A new film by Joel Gilbert called “Inside Bob Dylan’s Jesus Years (Busy Being Born … Again!)” is being released. It’s for sale on DVD and there will be a special screening — including a panel discussion afterwards — on Saturday, November 1st in New York City (thanks to a number of readers for writing about this).

I haven’t seen the movie yet, so this is not a review. The same director previously did a film on Dylan called “Rolling Thunder and the Gospel Years.” It looks like this one will include footage from some of the same interviews that appeared in that film (e.g. the late Jerry Wexler, Pastor Bill Dwyer). I found that film to be warm-hearted and interesting — a little cheesy in spots, but it’s good not to take all these things too seriously. It’s very much for fans, of-course, and in particular for people who are very interested in the subject matter of Dylan’s gospel years. It’s especially nice to hear first-person accounts of what went on from people who were there, so I’m looking forward to seeing the new film.
