Still standing ...9:12 am
By now everyone’s seen the story about Sarah Palin’s personal Yahoo! e-mail account being hacked, and the contents published on a vile bottom-feeding website. The question that occurs to me is this: How many other public figures — especially politicians — would survive having the contents of their personal e-mail account made public in this way? Yet, for all the genuine dastardliness of what was done, what has actually emerged? Goofy family photos. Perfectly ordinary correspondence and nicey-nice messages. Yes, some e-mails apparently connected with her job as governor, which the same bottom-feeders are attempting to blow up into a scandal by itself: “she’s not supposed to use her personal e-mail account for government business!”. This is not just small potatoes; this is minuscule potatoes, too tiny even for seed purposes.
The degree to which there is no story to be found, even after the criminal violation of her private e-mail account, is the story, if you ask me.
