Congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama. I hope and pray for the best for him and the country during his term. He will be my president too. On domestic policy, realistically, I don’t expect to agree with him on much, but he clearly has a mandate to get started on an agenda. On foreign policy, he has considerably more wiggle room to act in a non-ideological way, and I hope he uses it. Foreign policy is in substantial measure a response to events. I will support him, as the face of my country to the world, on every occasion when I feel he is doing the right thing, and I hope that those occasions are many. (I know that he’s been waiting anxiously for these gracious remarks from RWB; now you can relax, Barack.)

I am also happy this morning for every child in America who can now wholeheartedly be told: “You can grow up to be anything you want. You can even be president of the United States.” I’ve always believed that was true, but I know that many haven’t.

The sun did rise this morning, thanks be to God. So now, let’s get on with it.
