Stem cell successes and stem cell defeats ...11:25 am
At the First Things blog, Ryan Patrico highlights more success with adult stem cells. Real success, real treatment, real cure: a Spanish woman who now has a repaired trachea thanks to donor tissue being coated with her own stem cells and surgically implanted into her body.
Meanwhile, one of the first acts expected from President Obama will be to move for the expansion of U.S. federal funding to stem-cell research that destroys human embryos. President Bush, it should be remembered, was the first president to authorize federal funding for embryonic stem-cell research, but limited it to research on cell lines already created — so that no new embryos would be destroyed with the assistance of taxpayer funds.
Sadly, a President John McCain may well have done the very same thing that Obama looks certain to do. And therein, I would suggest, lies an important truth about this past election.
