The Fox News personality Bill O’Reilly singled out Bob Dylan, during the “patriots and pinheads” portion of his show, and decreed that he was amongst the former and not the latter group, thanks to his decision to donate some of the proceeds from his fall tour to a literacy program in Canada. Video below (thanks to R. for the link):

I’m not sure when O’Reilly did this — perhaps you had seen it already. But it’s curious and kinda funny. Bob’s a patriot for supporting a Canadian charity? OK, I don’t mean to argue. (The story about his donations to the literacy program was also covered in this space when it was first reported.)

Kudos in any case to Dylan for being a mensch in a variety of ways. I think probably the only exceptional thing in this case is that it got reported. He seems to prefer to do his thing discreetly, but sometimes it gets out, as when he visited a children’s hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
