The cry of the peacock, flies buzzin' my head
Ceiling fan broken, there's a heat in my bed
Street band playing "Nearer My God To Thee"
We met at the station, where the mission bells ring
She said "I know what you're thinking but there ain't a thing
You can do about it, so let us just agree to agree."

A prayer for Chabad ...11:22 am

Yesterday, by way of the Thanksgiving theme, I happened to link to a YouTube clip of Bob Dylan performing Hank Williams’ song Thank God during a televised fund-raiser for the Chabad charity organization in 1986. This religious organization performs charitable work all over the world. Dylan has supported their work on multiple occasions.

It has emerged that a key part of the coordinated jihadist attacks yesterday in Mumbai, India, was an attack on the Chabad Lubavitch center in Mumbai.

Twelve hours after gunmen stormed a Jewish center in Mumbai, Sandra Samuel heard the cries of a small child outside the room in which she had barricaded herself.

She opened the door, grabbed a 2-year-old old boy and ran outside with another center worker. They are the only ones to have emerged from the house run by the ultra-orthodox Jewish group Chabad Lubavitch.

“I took the child, I just grabbed the baby and ran out,” said Samuel, 44, who has worked as a cook for the center for the last five years.

The boy, whom she identified as Moshe Holtzberg, the son of Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzberg, was unharmed — but his blood-soaked pants spoke of the horrors inside. Holtzberg is the main representative at Chabad house.

[...]

The gunmen stormed the building Wednesday night during a series of coordinated attacks across this seaside city that have killed at least 100 people. A group of suspected Muslim militants claimed responsibility.

Rabbi Zalman Shmotkin, a spokesman for the Lubavitch movement in New York, said the gunmen seized a police vehicle, which allowed them access to the area around the Chabad house, which serves as an educational center, a synagogue and offers drug prevention services.

Samuel said she and Zakir Hussein, 22, the center’s caretaker, locked themselves in their first floor room when they saw a gunman running up the stairs.

[...]

Neighbors had tried to protect the house as armed gunmen seized it Wednesday night. They clashed with the gunmen and threw rocks at them in an effort to drive the militants away, said Puran Doshi, a businessman who lives nearby.

The crowd eventually retreated under fire from the assailants, who also threw several hand grenades, he said.

“They shot indiscriminately into the crowd,” Doshi said.

Sanjay Bhasme, 40, who lives in the building behind Chabad house, said he notified the police after the shooting began about 9:45 p.m., but they took more than 30 minutes to arrive — and only after he’d repeatedly telephoned for help.

Another day of banner achievements in the history of the Religion of Peace. Helpless religious and charity workers and helpless men and women in hotels being deliberately massacred. I know this is Thanksgiving day in the U.S., and it’s nice to turn away from ugliness and have warm thoughts towards all. But the ugliness doesn’t care which way we turn our heads; it is determined to assert itself. As always when spectacularly brutal and horrendous mass murders are committed in the name of Islam, the question raises its head once again: Where are the masses of moderate, peace-loving Muslims loudly condemning this evil and declaring, “Not in our name, and not in Allah’s name”?

As to why the Chabad organization was targeted, Robert Spencer observes:

Because they see their jihad in India as just one part of the larger jihad against America, Britain, and the West, and against Israel. And because the Qur’an says that “strongest among men in enmity to the believers you will find the Jews…” (5:82).

May God be there for all those who are face to face with this evil today.

The cat’s in the well and grief is showing its face
The world’s being slaughtered and it’s such a bloody disgrace.
