The death toll after the carefully coordinated attacks by Islamic jihadists in Mumbai, India will clearly continue to rise as the security forces pick their way through the scenes of murder and carnage. At the Chabad Lubavitch center, at least six of those kept hostage are now known dead. Tributes to Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzberg and his wife, Rivkah are being made by those who knew them and their work. The two (who moved to Mumbai from Brooklyn, New York) raised funds two years ago to purchase the building which was attacked by the terrorists. They operated a synagogue, taught Torah classes, offered drug rehabilitation services, and hosted members of the local Jewish population for weekly Sabbath meals (more at Chabad.org). Their son Moshe (who will turn two years-old tomorrow) was rescued by a woman named Sandra Samuel who was employed as a cook at the center.
