With the impact of global warming becoming clearer and clearer every day, it’s a darned good thing President Barack Obama will soon take office and take some urgent and incredibly expensive action to counteract it. He will be the first president to take office who actually ran on a platform pledging U.S. action against global warming. President Bush, you’ll remember, was a skeptic in 2000. During his second term he ceded the rhetorical ground and agreed that global warming was happening and that it was being caused by the actions of humans. This constituted the biggest single mistake of his presidency, in my view (and I’m sticking to it).
