An anniversary ...9:45 am
Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson died in a plane crash fifty years ago today, along with the pilot of the aircraft, Roger Petersen.
Bob Dylan had seen their show in Duluth, Minnesota, a few days before the crash, and, during his Grammy award acceptance speech in 1998, he poignantly and pointedly recalled the moment during that show that Buddy Holly looked at him, as Bob stood three feet from the stage. (On YouTube.)
And from a concert in Santa Cruz, California, in the year 2000, here is a great clip of Bob and his band performing Not Fade Away.
