Inside scoop on forthcoming Bob Dylan music video! ...2:59 pm
A reader with connections forwards some information circulated by a production company in Los Angeles, which is seeking to cast a new music video for Bob Dylan. There is the following on the video’s planned content:
Bob Dylan’s latest video is a action packed narrative piece about a man and a woman in love and hate. Directed by Australian stunt man turned award winning director Nash Edgerton (SPIDER, LUCKY).
SEEKING:
[ GUY ]
40-50, Bukowski-esque, a run down working class drunkard. A little paunchy and rough looking. Maybe like mickey rourke in bar fly (but 10-15 years later). and not quite as good looking.[ GIRL ]
30’s. A tough girl who has seen it all. She’s sexy, but trashy sexy, with some fight in her. Think Rose Mcgowan in Planet Terror or Marisa Tomei in The Wrestler.Storyline: A man comes home to find the girl he tied up missing. She attacks him and a fight ensues. There is a fine line between love and hate. Is this violence or is this love?
Shooting is predicted to begin on April 14th.
I have to guess that this video would be for Beyond Here Lies Nothin’, which has been described as the “first single” from Together Through Life. Although, who knows? Those visuals could work for some other dark Dylanesque love song just as well — perhaps a second single.

As far as Bob Dylan’s most recent music videos go, a notable missing factor in them has been the man himself. I don’t know if that will be the case with this one, but it sounds that way (and of-course Bob is busy touring in Europe). I thought the video for When The Deal Goes Down was beautiful, starring Scarlett Johansson and directed by Bennett Miller, but I seriously doubt that Bob had anything to do with it. There was a clip later for Thunder On The Mountain, but that was just old footage spliced together. Then, with Tell Tale Signs: the Bootleg Series Vol. 8, there was a video for Dreamin’ Of You with Harry Dean Stanton as a lonely concert bootlegger. Again, I would be inclined to presume that Bob Dylan had very little if anything to do with that, but that’s just my own presumption, admittedly. (I tend to think Bob himself would do something much more weird.)
So, I would think that the forthcoming video is basically the director’s take on the song, and on what visuals work best for it. In any case, just remember when you see it that you heard about it here first! (Update: I see via Dylan Tweets that another blog had this one day earlier. But minus all the irresistable analysis provided at RWB.)
