Let’s put them in charge of our health care!

The terror scare in lower Manhattan today was allegedly the result of a clandestine attempt by President Obama’s White House to “update its file photo of the president’s plane near the Statue of Liberty.”

Basically, Air Force One (in this case a 747 without President Obama actually on board) buzzed lower Manhattan at low altitude today, followed closely by two F-16s.

As some readers may be aware, I myself live in New York City. I wasn’t anywhere near that area to witness today’s events, but there is no question that had I seen something like this occurring I would have made the entirely natural and quite reasonable assumption, given the circumstances, that this was a rogue aircraft being pursued by the military. My heart would have been in my throat, to say the least. Even today, I look up at virtually every airplane I hear that passes over this city, and mentally note its altitude. Knowing how sensitive the downtown area is, from a security standpoint, I would not for a moment think that this aircraft was acting according to any kind of flight plan.

The fact that there has been an attempt to blame the Pentagon for what was a photo-op authorized directly from the White House only compounds the despicable and deeply stupid nature of what occurred. Don’t even get me started on what would happen had George W. Bush’s White House authorized such a display.

All in aid of getting a glorious shot of President Obama’s plane flying by the Statue of Liberty?

Things have changed, alright.
