Search Google News for “intellectual heft” this morning and you’ll see it’s the new catch-word, the new “meme,” the new talk-of-the-town. And the Google hits don’t come near to conveying how many talking-heads are using the term on TV. It’s being used, of-course, as a way of belittling Harriet Miers; it is her heft that is being called into question.

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend” is not necessarily a good creed to apply in all circumstances - and certainly doesn’t cut it regarding a Supreme Court nomination - but, I have to admit, seeing this stuff starts to make me feel just a little rosier about the Miers pick.

Hugh Hewitt continues to fight the fight on the right in her defense, with some very interesting interviews from his radio show yesterday. (By the way, Ronnie K. writes to say that Hewitt uses a whole lot of Dylan for his end-of-hour bumper music. As I’ve hardly ever gotten to listen to his show, I wasn’t aware of this. Needless to say, it’s a major mark in his favor around here.)

On a lighter note, Iowahawk has uncovered Harriet’s job application for the Supreme Court. In his case, it’s safe to say, the pokes at her less-than-Ivy-League-lineage can be understood as more affectionate than derogatory. It’s a good chuckle. As is Harriet’s very own blog over here.
