Another side of Bob and more!

The cry of the peacock, flies buzzin' my head
Ceiling fan broken, there's a heat in my bed
Street band playing "Nearer My God To Thee"
We met at the station, where the mission bells ring
She said "I know what you're thinking but there ain't a thing
You can do about it, so let us just agree to agree."

Expecting Little ...6:10 pm

The other day, I sent a link into Expecting Rain, for that Neighborhood Bully column in Montana’s Daily Inter Lake, written by Frank Miele. It hasn’t appeared. Of-course one sees no end of links to non-Dylan stories on that site, especially, for instance, if they’re Bush-bashing things connected with Neil Young. RWB has received links there in the past for significant pieces on this site, but I’m reasonably sure that this is now a “website-non-grata” at that location. It’s a shame: the site used to be a genuine across-the-board reference for Dylan-related articles. If it’s going to now exclude anything with a conservative tilt, while including non-Dylan-related stuff that happens to be left-wing in its intent, a disclaimer to that effect would be nice. One of the reasons I called this site “RightWingBob.com” was so that no one could accuse me of sneaking my agenda in while pretending to objectively cover Dylan news. My slant is right there on the table — take it or leave it. Others are perhaps not so upfront, and indeed that’s the story with much of the writing on Dylan that has been done in the past too.

Well, that’s the way of the world, I guess, and just more reason to keep plugging along.

Addendum 08/02/2006 11:35 am: But I see that this post got linked today. KEA comments simply: “I don’t use all the links I get.” Well, hardly, but that’s clearly not the point. Why would you link an article — just as an example — that is about CSNY “fanning the political flames as only they can,” and doesn’t even mention Bob Dylan once (but bashes Bush liberally), and at the same time choose not to link a newspaper article that talks about Israel’s right of self-defense and quotes Bob Dylan’s song Neighborhood Bully?

Of-course, anyone who owns any web site is free to put whatever they choose on it. The question is simply whether people are being fooled about what Expecting Rain represents these days: Is it an unbiased reference point of things going on in the world at large relating to Bob Dylan, or does it selectively leave out those things that don’t appeal to the webmaster’s anti-war politics, no matter how substantial the Dylan content?
