Another side of Bob and more!

The tempest may howl and the loud thunder roar
And gathering storms may arise
But calm is my feeling, at rest is my soul
The tears are all wiped from my eyes

Le Bono Mot ...10:31 am

Last night on the Conan O’Brien show, U2 were the sole guests. Bono (known to down many Guinesses with Dylan, as described in Chronicles) talked about his debt and poverty relief efforts. He talked about the good work that Senator Jesse Helms and President George W. Bush have done. Conan astutely made the point that while most celebrities involved with “causes” tend to achieve nothing beyond name-calling, Bono has racked up real achievements by working with leaders of all political stripes.

Also worth noting: Bono, in emphasizing the importance of solving the chronic poverty afflicting the African continent, opined that in 50 years people will look back and say, “What did we do? What defined this generation, apart from the internet and the war on terror - which are all very noble things.”

Now, Bono shouldn’t need kudos for - on the one hand - assuming the basic good intentions of even conservative political leaders, and, on the other hand, acknowledging the noble purpose of the war against terrorism. These attitudes ought to be something reasonable people take for granted.

Meanwhile, a poll over at Democratic Underground, on the question of what you do when you “hear news of a terror alert/warning,” currently has 92% of respondents stating:

“Check Bush’s approval rating in today’s paper, roll my eyes, and go on about my business.”

Addendum: As good-for-laughs as it would have been if Bono had won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize (for which he was nominated) it could never have matched - for sheer hilarity - the actual decision, announced today.
