The Levee’s Gonna Break ...2:59 pm
USA Today also has a review of Modern Times. The writer of it says that The Levee’s Gonna Break brings Hurricane Katrina to mind, and that the line “Some of these people gonna strip you of all they can take” sounds political to him. The site invites comments from readers, and I must say that I like this one:
I must take a little issue with your interpretation of “The Levee’s Gonna Break” as specifically a commentary on Katrina. Dylan’s been writing about floods since he started writing songs, and using it as a way of probing human nature tested by disaster and the breakdown of rules, and as a way of dealing with themes of Apocalypse. Even on his last album, “Love and Theft,” there was “High Water.”
This is just my opinion, but I think it’s one of his ways of posing questions like “What really matters to you? What are you going to grab when the floodwaters rise? Do you actually have anything worth grabbing?”
