Forty-eight hours after being informed that they wrongly attributed a gravely misleading quote to Bob Dylan, the Christian Science Monitor has neither responded nor issued a correction.

The writer of the piece, contacted by yours-truly yesterday, admitted making a mistake in attributing a quote from Jerry Wexler (describing himself as a “62-year-old Jewish atheist” in 1979) to Bob Dylan in 2003.

No source for the quote was provided in the published article, and it is unclear why it did not raise a red flag for a fact-checker or editor at this highly lauded international newspaper.

It’s even less clear to me why this newspaper continues to present this quote as fact on its website.

The Monitor’s correction page states:

The Monitor promptly corrects factual errors and welcomes comments and information that may call for correction.

I have to assume that the above statement is also a misquote.
