Nettie Moore ...9:43 am
Anyone who doesn’t think Dylan can sing, or thinks his voice in these latter years is beyond redemption, should listen to this clip of him performing Nettie Moore, in St. Paul Minnesota on October 29th last. The expressiveness of this vocal is nothing short of stunning, I think. Nettie Moore is a song that is already strongly benefiting from live performance, audibly growing and soaring. (Anyone with any kind of broadband connection would be well advised to be familiar with Dimeadozen and the bittorrent thing if they aren’t already.)
Today I’ll stand in faith and raise
The voice of praise
The sun is strong, I’m standing in the light
I wish to God that it were night
Oh, I miss you, Nettie Moore
And my happiness is o’er
Winter’s gone, the river’s on the rise
I loved you then and ever shall
But there’s no one here left to tell
The world has gone black before my eyes
And by the way, there’s some astute musings on Dylan’s lyrical turns-of-phrase as exhibited on “Love & Theft” and Modern Times at this post on the blog One Year Viewed From Space.
