Thunder on the Mountain ...3:17 pm
An email from BobDylan.com announces the new video for for Thunder on the Mountain (below, or visit Slate.com). Slate also has a competition where if you can name the year that each of twenty still images were shot, you can be entered in a competition to win an autographed guitar. Good luck and godspeed.
The new video is reminscent of the old Series of Dreams clip (on YouTube here), in that it features footage of Bob from all recorded history — in some cases the same footage — spliced together somewhat cleverly. It does not have the power or panache of that Series of Dreams video, however, in my opinion, perhaps partly because that approach doesn’t particularly jibe with the song.
But I guess Columbia wasn’t about to be able to persuade Dylan to make some effort regarding a new video for Thunder on the Mountain. “I mean, the album was already number one, man, what do you want?” This clip was probably considerably cheaper to make than the beautiful film that Bennett Miller shot for When The Deal Goes Down (YouTube).
