Whenever there are stories in the press about the kinds of things the NSA does to detect terrorists’ telephone conversations and the like, you hear that “Bush is spying on the American people,” or “Bush is invading people’s privacy,” et cetera, et cetera.

So, what I want to know now is: why was Bill Clinton spying on Princess Diana?

Others are asking good questions too, like, was the FISA court notified?

Addendum 12/11/2006 1:45pm: So, now we’re told that Diana was only being spied upon as part of the surveillance of “tycoon Teddy Forstmann.” So, merely in the course of the investigation of someone else, Bill Clinton authorized the bugging of a member of the British royal family?

What did Clinton know and when did he know it? And will anyone ever ask him?
