I don’t happen to know where Bob Dylan is spending his off-time this December, but if it’s in Minnesota, he’ll be finding himself in very cold irons bound. The temperature reading at the time of writing in Hibbing is -6 degrees Fahrenheit. Parts of Minnesota have experienced lows of -9 degrees F in the past 24 hours, and windchill effects of -25 degrees F. The winter storm that has hit the Midwest in the past couple of days has been blamed so far for seventeen deaths. And it’s still about ten days until winter officially arrives. I just felt obliged to stop and note this, considering that in Copenhagen at the moment there are those who are using Bob’s song A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall to help inspire the ongoing global campaign to make the world colder. (At minus 9 degrees Fahrenheit, it’s a very hard rain indeed.)
