Knock knock ...12:16 pm
In 1999 Bob Dylan went on a double-billed concert tour with another well known Jewish singer and songwriter. The way it worked, they took turns being the opener or closer, alternating from gig to gig. At the end of each night’s opening act, the closer would come on and they would duet on a few numbers, using the opener’s band. So it resulted in a variety of joint performances, a lot of them pretty rough, at least going by what I’ve heard. Yet, I do like this one: Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door, from Duluth, Minnesota on July 3rd, 1999. It’s with the other guy’s band, and I like the different flavors in the arrangement. Near the end, it becomes a medley, and it’s kind of cute when the other guy starts singing, “I hear you knockin’ but you can’t come in, Bob,” and Dylan shoots back, “I hear you knockin’ too!” Tryin’ to get to heaven indeed.
(By the way, on YouTube you can find the other version: the same duet, using Bob’s band and arrangement.)
