Another side of Bob and more!

The cry of the peacock, flies buzzin' my head
Ceiling fan broken, there's a heat in my bed
Street band playing "Nearer My God To Thee"
We met at the station, where the mission bells ring
She said "I know what you're thinking but there ain't a thing
You can do about it, so let us just agree to agree."

One Thousand! ...12:57 pm

The WordPress program I use to blog in this space numbers this entry as the one thousandth post; i.e. the permanent link for this post is: http://rightwingbob.com/weblog/archives/1000 .

However, prior to adopting WordPress, I had already made some hundreds of posts, so in reality I passed the one thousand threshold at some undetermined point in the past.

And, conversely, some posts in WordPress were begun but never finished by the author, thus using up some numbers, so that this is not even really the one thousandth WordPress post.

Nevertheless, I want to take the opportunity of this faux milestone to thank readers for reading. The fundamental thing a writer requires is to be read, or at the very least to have an anticipation of being read someday. In addition, thanks to all for the correspondence — it is all appreciated. And a very sincere thank you to those who’ve seen their way towards clicking the PayPal or Amazon buttons in the sidebar on the right.

Speaking of money, it’s something I’ve never been very skilled at making, and this blog hasn’t broken any mold in that respect. As a supporter of free enterprise and capitalism, it’s certainly not that I have anything against the concept of making money; it’s just myself making money that makes me kind of queasy. I was browsing some online bloggers’ forum the other day, and reading a discussion of ideas on “monetizing” one’s blog. I read posts from people who were unable to spell simple words, talking matter-of-factly about making around a thousand dollars a month from their blogs, by virtue of writing some kind of semi-sponsored gobbledygook. Now, I have no problem with people who can’t spell, but I only wish they’d have the common human decency not to earn money by writing. Reading this stuff was more depressing than several kicks in the stomach, I have to admit.

Nevertheless I continue to tinker with ads and Amazon links to see what might deliver a steady trickle of pennies. Google Ads (like the one at the top of the page, or the text ads elsewhere) deposit a few cents in the RWB coffer whenever they are clicked (no purchase is necessary). Amazon, on the other hand, provides a small commission whenever a purchase is made by someone who enters Amazon’s site through a link on this site.

Oh well. On to a thousand and one, and beyond!
