16. All Along The Watchtower

Same band: Stu Kimball and Denny Freeman on guitar; Donnie Herron on violin, mandolin, pedal steel etc; Tony Garnier on bass and George Recile on drums. Dylan on keyboard and harp.

Set-list is no great departure. 4 songs from “Love & Theft,” and a hop-scotch through the back catalog. Though close Dylan-watchers can get jaded quickly when there are no bizarre and utterly unexpected elements in the set-list, it’s worth remembering what an incredibly rich selection of songs Dylan puts out there every night. Every Grain of Sand, If You See Her Say Hello, It’s Alright, Ma – those three songs alone are all masterpieces that no one else could have written, and the chance to hear Dylan himself sing them in his ever-changing and unique manner, while he’s still on this earth, is one to be seized.

Having said that, however, I think that attending just about every gig, as some people are known to do, is nuts.
